Firstly we would like to thank all the people that got in touch regarding this sculpture opportunity, we’ve made some great new contacts . . . . . and are very happy to announce that artist Phil Neal will be travelling all the way down from Worksop (Nottinghamshire) with his studio (and dog Stanley) in his van to start works tomorrow morning on site at Hackney Downs Studios!!!
Phil Neal trained in medical prosthetics and engineering. He uses this practical experience in his sculpture which is often influenced by it. He is passionate about art education and uses recycled material as much as possible to inspire as well as educate. He himself is inspired by nature and natural forms, finding wood the most naturally beautiful of materials although he is creative and experimental in all mediums and loves to contrast these elements. He always tries to ensure that the craft and aesthetics of his work will harmonize with the environment in which it is placed.
Images of past works
Hackney Downs Studios have been renovating part of their warehouse into a brand new independent shopping and cultural development called The Village Green. From this a wide variety of hard waste has been collected, this being the material and part inspiration for a reclaimed sculpture. The launch of The Village Green Tree will be on the eve of the 18th April, 6-9pm. We will be facilitating a creative activity where you can make your own leaf out of some of the waste, which will then be adorned on the tree for all to see.We do hope you can join us in celebrating this collaborative creation. Details of the event here and if you cant make it down to see the tree yourself we will upload some piccies soon.
